Well, it’s always nice to see glass art making headlines. Last month, The New York Times shared an update on the new wing coming to the Corning Museum of Glass this March. I knew this expansion was happening, but I didn’t know very much about the design – and turns out it’s rather exciting. New York architect Thomas Phifer is driving the process, working with panels of white glass alongside large glass ceiling skylights and windows to bathe the new 100,000 square foot space in abundant natural light. This new wing will be the largest of six buildings that comprise the museum’s campus, housing multiple exhibition spaces as well as a 10,000 square foot glassblowing demonstration theater.

As the NYT puts it, the development “is almost certain to be globally recognized as a light-gathering glass masterpiece itself.”
